Consider this our holiday release. Straight out of cold, rainy Los Angeles, we call this one "So Much To See." We recorded the song in quick bursts as the four of us dashed in and out on various holiday trips. Kyle spent some time in San Diego, Pat in Orange County, and Michael in Santa Barbara. It's as close to a real vacation as we've come since the Odyssey began.
And guess what... it's been six months since the Odyssey began. Time flies!

shucks, i was RAISED on j-andrews.
i was tricked into thinking all that stuff was "cool" and "masculine."
I thought every movie had intermissions.
somewhere along the way I learnt a hard lesson and never looked back.
till now...
"So Much To See"
by The Theory of Funkativity
Verse:
Look at these dollar signs lining the walls
Look how these power lines block out the sun
Take a good look at these
My god, don't they take your breath away
Look at these eyesores, ruining things
Look at these diehards, fixing to feed
They'll get their kicks for as
Long as they're let off their leash
Look at these bastards screening their calls
It's looking like they don't want us here at all
I'm a tough customer
And I don't buy what they say
Chorus:
Hello, hello, don't go
You've so much to see
Every good thing in this world
You don't get for free
Verse:
I watch the days as they turn into weeks
I keep my eye out for deformities
I'm an autograph short of
Believing my life is complete
Call me a coward for playing the game
I can take anything you throw at me
Schoolmaster says I'm ok
'Cause I know how to read
All priced to sell, 'cause they can't compete
Get rid of spare parts to try and shed weight
Etc, etc,
Hot damn, now I've seen everything
Chorus:
Hello, hello, don't go
You've so much to see
Every good thing in this world
You don't get for free
Hello, hello, don't go
You've people to meet
If you want to get on this ride
Best stick with me
Chorus:
Hello, hello, don't go
You've so much to see
(Have a look, stay a while)
Every good thing in this world
You don't get for free
Hello, hello, don't go
You've people to meet
(Don't you want to stay a while)
Hello, hello, don't go
You've so much to see
Everything in this world
You don't get for free

This is one of my favorite recent songs. We set Sean loose on the drums and they turned out great. They remind me of
"Ramblin' Man From Gramblin" by Sam Spence with that free form feel. I like how the stylistic and dynamic variety forces the song to build and recede.

I did a lot of experimentation to find the right guitar tone for the chorus. I was tinkering with different guitars and mic placement when I came across something that sounded great. I looked at the settings and realized that, instead of the microphone in front of my guitar amp, I had accidentally been listening to one of the mics inside the kick drum. It had a big sound, but it was still oddly direct - nothing like how a distance mic usually sounds. Amazingly, it was sounding better than the one in front of the amp... one of those things that you would never think to try.
