Busy, busy, busy. We've had an insane number of things going on... all of them good.
Pat is heading to Philadelphia for a couple days this week, so the remaining three of us will be (literally) holding down the fort. Speaking of which, Pat and Kyle did some renovation work and raised the ceiling to a convenient height. No more crawling for us. We travel in style.
We also managed to piece together our first group-prepared meal. Sean supplied the pasta, Kyle the chicken, Michael the mushrooms, and Pat the tomato sauce. We dine in style, too.

Top 5 Spacemen of ALL TIME:
1. Spaceman Spiff
2. Han Solo
3. Captain Picard
4. Buck Rogers
5. Dave (2001)
What did they all have in common???
Terrible love lives.
That's cuz...
Love...
Can't survive in that airless vacuum.
It neeeeed some atmosphere. It neeeeeeed some atmosphere to appear.
So why don't you kick off them space booties, and get comfortable.
It's gonna be a loooooooooooongg trip.
If we start gettin' busy now, our kids' kids will be first generation Nep-Tunes.
"Follow My Voice"
by The Theory of Funkativity
Verse:
Don't have, a care in the world
I weightlessly
Pass by all the people
Heavier than me
I've flown straight off the map
I'm finally free
I can tell that you are tired
Of wandering
Chorus:
When a sun tries to get in my way
I like to test her bravery
Man, I love me a hot-headed babe
They know how to pull my strings
When a sun tries to get in my way
I like to test her bravery
Man, I love me a hot-headed babe
They know how to pull my strings
Verse:
It won't be very hard
To reach light speed
I've seen it done a ton
On TV
Follow the sound of my voice
Echoing
I can tell that you are tired
Of wandering
Chorus:
When a comet comes my way
She will finally see that game
Man, I love me a fast-moving babe
They always cut right to the chase

This song was one of the ones that Pat calls a "morpher" - one that changes significantly after the vocals have been tracked. In fact, it was our biggest morpher to date. I completely scrapped the original instrumentals for the verse. I started playing around with new keys, new melodies, something that would work well with the vocals we had recorded.
The main plan for "Follow My Voice" was to have dark, unexpected, and somewhat dissonant progressions and transitions. It's an area we've explored a bit, but this was the furthest we've taken it.

My guitar miking practices have changed a whole lot over the course of the Odyssey. It's just one of many cool developments that have come from recording schedule.
Back in the Self-Titled days (ah, memories...) I had a two-mic setup: a 414 dead center on one speaker and a 57 centered on another. My amp is very warm, and centering the mics brought out some bite. As our mixes thickened up, I transitioned to just a centered 57, then a centered 414 only, and the 414 slowly began working it's way towards the midpoint between the center and the edge of the cone.
