It's Week 20, and that's cause for celebration. It seems like ages ago that "Crime And Passion" made its way into the world. There's a new song in town, and we call it "Waiting For The Sun."
The big 2-0 seems like as good a time as any to call it quits, so thanks to everyone who followed along.
Kidding. We're just getting started.

Leonardo sits in his workshop, screwing in the last pieces of his flying machine. He lights more candles. The propeller blades glow. Outside the nearest window, the Wretched gurgle loudly, begging for change. The city's soggy, but its worn hide only makes it more aerodynamic.
For the love of modern medicine, mathematics, engineering (ahem! GOD!)...deliver us from this sludge! The people are illiterate! Our numbers are down! Participation ain't at its best!
So Da Vinci went back in time....and gave the cavemen perspective.
"Waiting For The Sun"
by The Theory of Funkativity
Verse:
Here in the earth
'Neath our feet
There's a murmuring
There's a single voice
Telling us
To wear our animal skins
Gone are the days
Of the home
Of prosperity
If we want to live
We will have
To let the wild ones in
Here in the woods
In our midst
There's an entity
Hiding in the dark
Hoping that
We won't hear it speak
We're linking arms
For the cause
All in a ring
Without fear
Watch the bonfires burn
Chorus:
Waiting
For the sun
Soon it will rise
Ending the night
Waiting
For the sun
Verse:
Those from afar
On their way
Left remembering
Places of their births
And the scars
Of their earliest bliss
Fools we may be
For staying strong
We are maddening
Play our songs with pride
We alone
Make the seasons turn
Those in the air
Look around
Circle overhead
Frenzy put on hold
Standing still
Waiting in the wing
We on the ground
Made of stone
Know what to do
How to lead
What the future brings
Chorus:
We make
The seasons turn
Before our eyes
Melting the ice
We make
The seasons turn
Chorus:
Waiting
For the sun
Soon it will rise
Ending the night
We make
The seasons turn
Before our eyes
Melting the ice
Waiting
For the sun
We make
The seasons turn
Before our eyes

"Waiting For The Sun" ended up with an Eastern and operatic feel. This wasn't my goal at all when I wrote it, but as we began tracking more and more parts started leaning that way. In sharp contrast to the last few releases, the song is harmonically stationary. No key changes, and barely any chordal shifts. Instead, the rhythmic oddities are the foundation of the song. Triplets are scattered throughout to break up the marching beat.

The instrumentation and tone I had in mind for this song went out the window almost immediately. It made for a strange recording process. Guitar tones that I thought would fit perfectly ended up clashing horribly with the vocals and the piano, and tones that I thought didn't stand a chance ended up sitting perfectly.
